The first Deputy Jacob Pickett Remembrance Day was a chance to come together and remember Jake.
It was a day for a community to find closure after a senseless tragedy. This year we’ll introduce a force for good that will transcend the tragedy. We’ll thank Jake for what he taught us about serving others and then honor his legacy by carrying on his mission through a new organization that will help law enforcement families in their times of need.
Jake loved his law enforcement family… He was always ready to volunteer to help his brothers and sisters in need. In his honor, we introduce a not for profit organization with the mission to help law enforcement families when they experience tragic life events.
Tragedy Is Unconventional. Our Response Must Be As Well.
Jake’s story ended tragically. The outpouring of support from the community and law enforcement personnel provided much needed comfort for Jake’s family. Tragedy, though, strikes the extended law enforcement family in many different ways. Often, there are no official ways families can get immediate short term and/or sustained financial support for those families. Unconventional tragedies like a spouse’s devastating diagnosis, a sick child, a tragic accident, or a mental health crisis can be devastating. Some require creative responses when no other help is available. We count on our law enforcement members every day. They should be able to count on us in their times of need.
WHen tragedy strikes an officer’s loved ones, who will respond?
Jake found a way. Jake responded. We will also find a way. We will also respond. Will you join us?

Here’s how we’ll help law enforcement families

QUICK RESPONSE FUNDING
for time sensitive immediate critical needs

LONGER TERM SUPPORT
for medical, household, professional, and family needs

TIME & COMFORT
for families to handle crises with less day to day stress
to understand the heart of the organization, you first need to
Understand Jake & Jen
Jen and Jake Pickett shared a passion for making a difference. Jen, a Brownsburg Schools teacher, and Jake, a proud Boone County Sheriff’s Deputy served both professionally and personally. They found injustices and they took action. Whether providing foster care for children in need or organizing an animal rescue in their community, together they contributed to a more caring world. They were often found spending their free time making a difference in big and small ways. Responding is their way of life.
Jen will now set her sights on continuing their shared passion as she educates two young men on the power of good and their father’s legacy of caring for others.
RELIEVE HARDSHIPS FOR THE LAW ENFORCEMENT FAMILY
FIND UNCONVENTIONAL WAYS TO HELP EASE THE EFFECT OF TRAGEDY
SUPPORT A MORE CARING WORLD
Jake’s watch has ended, but
his legacy carries on

“I am Deputy Jacob Pickett’s surviving spouse, Jen Pickett. It is my goal to bring to life an organization that will help others in our law enforcement family… We hope you will join our mission this year in supporting the Farinellas and in future years supporting other law enforcement families by responding like Jake.”
– Jen Pickett, Founder – Jacob Pickett Response Organization

“You will always be remembered for your kind heart, compassion, infectious laughter, loyalty, courage, bravery, and warrior’s spirit. As a husband and father, your dedication to family and faith was the cornerstone of your legacy. Go rest high on that mountain, brother…We’ll take the watch from here.”

The Farinella Family
The Farinella Family held a special place in Jake’s heart. Joe Farinella and Jake were sworn in together in Tipton County as Sheriff’s Deputies. From that day a bond was formed that would lead to the Pickett and Farinella families sharing many good times together. Jake would have certainly responded in every possible way had he heard the devastating news of the diagnosis given to Joe’s beloved wife Amanda. As we launch the Jacob Pickett Response Organization we will rally all available resources to respond the way Jake would for his dear friend.
Their Story:
On October 9th, 2019, Amanda Farinella was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer with metastasizes to the spine, ribs, vertebrae, lymph nodes, and liver. She is a loving wife to her husband, Joe Farinella, who is a deputy for Tipton County Sheriff’s Department. She is an amazing mother to two daughters (3rd and 5th grade), and a fur-momma to their retired police K9 Aik. Amanda is known by others to be sweet, caring, and hard-working.
Since Amanda’s diagnosis, life for her and her family has looked very different. Amanda is currently undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy in hopes of preventing further spread of the cancer. On March 7th, 2020, we will host the Deputy Pickett 2nd Annual Remembrance Day as a fundraiser for the Farinella family. The Jacob Pickett Response Organization will donate money raised to help cover medication costs, cancer treatments, and any ancillary services she and her family may need along this journey.
Amanda and her family were loved dearly by Jake and Jen. Jake and Joe began working side-by-side in 2013 for Tipton County Sheriff’s department. Over the years their friendship grew. Our goal this year is for law enforcement, Boone County, and Tipton County, and surrounding communities to come together to raise funds, awareness, and support for an amazing family who deserves it. As a foundation, we will “Respond Like Jake,” and show the Farinellas that in this family, no one fights alone.
This remembrance day, join us in helping the Farinellas through this incredible hardship
